Increasingly, patients have the right to influence the level of care they receive and the devices that are used on them in the provision of such care.
Although the BRAIDLOCK® is not necessarily the right device for all circumstances, it has been clinically proven to be a better option for many patients because it is:
- Safer than conventional securement methods. As the likelihood of a line slipping out is dramatically reduced, any fluids that must come out of your body (e.g. toxins) or any fluids that need to enter your body (e.g. drugs and nourishment) pass uninterrupted.
- More comfortable rather than having cumbersome bandages and tape restricting your motion, or causing irritation to your skin, the BRAIDLOCK® is latex-free and uses one of three simple fixation techniques (suture, adhesive or hook & loop) to increase your comfort during protracted usage. Also, unlike many common alternatives, the BRAIDLOCK® does not require constant removal and repositioning.
- Confidence - often, patients with a catheter in an awkward location (consider urinary catheters) feel that they cannot move about, fearing that the catheter will come dislodged. BRAIDLOCK® offers security and range of motion; in this example, a hook & loop strap around the patient’s leg could prevent tangling and ensure movement stability.
- Easier to apply and adjust, so that a wider range of trained healthcare professionals (i.e. nurses and junior doctors) can attend to your condition, when your lead doctor may be unavailable.
- More environmentally friendly than traditional line fixation methods. In the past, a trained clinician might have had to use cotton, gauze, bandages, plasters, suture string and more - potentially weighing a few hundred grams - to secure just one line. If the line needed adjustment, all of these supplies would have to be thrown out (to avoid infection) and the line reattached with the same amount of supplies. The BRAIDLOCK® is one simple braided plastic device which weighs less than a gram (suture version). As it is adjustable, only one device is needed per line. Combined, the manufacturing, packaging, transportation and usage processes produce a very small carbon footprint.
- Cheaper than conventional methods. In an age of rapidly increasing healthcare costs worldwide - be they in public systems, user-paid services or private insurance - the BRAIDLOCK® provides a practical alternative. A single device can save several dollars off incumbent practice; multiplied by the millions of procedures carried out annually the aggregate cost savings are substantial.
Please ask your doctor if a BRAIDLOCK® is right for your specific procedure. Please contact our Sales team who will gladly provide any demonstrations or support that may be required.
IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances should you allow your surgery to be delayed if a BRAIDLOCK® is not available. Always seek guidance from your qualified medical practitioner.
